New Paxil Side Effects Discovered
It’s disturbing when the very drugs that are supposed to help us end up causing more harm than the original condition being treated. This has been the case for many people who took Paxil, and other anti-depressants in the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) category. As an Oklahoma Paxil lawyer, we’ve seen clients who have had to deal with the side effects of the drug, and how it negatively affected their lives. Now there’s a new Paxil side effect that mostly affects pregnant women.
A new study performed in Canada has demonstrated a connection between Paxil and other SSRIs, and hypertension in pregnant women. The study was published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, and found an 80 percent risk of high blood pressure in women who took the anti-depressant drugs during and even after pregnancy.
Hypertension can now be added to the long list of potential side effects that stem from taking Paxil and other SSRIs such as Prozac and Zoloft. Other side effects include birth defects such as malformed hearts and skeletal defects. This study also showed there is a risk of high blood pressure in the infants born to women who took the drugs, another new development.
If you took Paxil or any other SSRI during or since pregnancy, talk to your doctor about whether it may have had an effect on your blood pressure. It’s also a good idea to get your baby checked for the condition. If you find either of you are suffering the effects of these drugs, contact us so we can help you take action.
