Owasso, OK (May 1, 2019) – On April 29, Owasso emergency crews responded to the scene of a bicyclist accident on East 96th Street North near North 136th East Avenue.
Around 9:35 p.m., crews responded to the scene of a collision along the roadway.
An investigation of the incident found that 18-year-old Issac Diahel was traveling along 96th Street on his bicycle when he was struck from behind by a GMC pickup truck. The truck then dragged him approximate 45-feet down the roadway.
Diahel was transported to a Tulsa hospital for treatment to injuries sustained in the collision. The driver of the GMC remained at the scene and was fully cooperative with officers.
Our thoughts are with Mr. Diahel and his family during this time as we hope for a full recovery.
Statistics demonstrate that over 600 people lose their lives due to motor vehicle accidents across our state annually while hundreds more are injured. Sadly, over 200 bicyclists are injured in collisions along Oklahoma roadways each year.
Bicyclists are at an increased risk of sustaining brain injuries or other catastrophic injuries in motor vehicle accidents simply because they lack adequate protection against motor vehicles. When victims are injured in bike accidents, they are often forced to go through surgery and extensive medical treatment. Those harmed by negligent drivers should contact an Oklahoma car accident attorney as soon as possible to explore legal options available for them.
