Depakote (Valproic Acid) is an anti-convulsant manufactured by Abbot Industries that is used to treat certain kinds of seizures. It is also used to treat mania in people with-bipolar disorder, prevent migraine headaches, outbursts of aggression in children with ADHD, chorea, and certain conditions that affect thinking, learning, and understanding. Depakote may be taken by a capsule, an extended-release tablet, a delayed-release tablet, a sprinkle capsule, and a liquid. Overall, Depakote has been successful in treating these conditions. Unfortunately, just like some other anticonvulsants such as Topamax and Dilantin, the drug has been linked to some potentially dangerous side effects. Continue reading

Dilantin (Phenytoin) is a drug manufactured by Pfizer that is used to control various types of seizures and to treat seizures that may begin either during or after surgery to the brain or the nervous system. Dilantin is in the class of medications called anticonvulsants and may be prescribed in an extended-release capsule, a chewable tablet, or a liquid. While Dilantin has proved beneficial in the treatment of seizures, it has also been identified with dangerous and potentially deadly side effects. Continue reading
